EFT Tapping for Abandonment: A Full 3-Round Script

A full 3-round EFT tapping script for the fear of being abandoned — acknowledging the wound, softening the belief, and moving toward safety and trust.

You feel it before you can name it.

Someone goes quiet for a few hours and your whole body shifts. You check your phone. You replay the last conversation, searching for what you might have done wrong. You try to talk yourself down from the ledge — they're probably just busy, stop — but your nervous system isn't listening. It's already convinced: this is the beginning of the end. They're pulling away. They're leaving. And you will be left, again, the way you've always been left.

That tightening. That spiral. That exhausting, constant vigil.

That's the abandonment wound. And if it feels like you've lived inside it for as long as you can remember — you probably have.

The abandonment wound forms early. Sometimes from a parent who physically disappeared. Sometimes from a caregiver who stayed in the house but checked out emotionally — present on the outside, unreachable on the inside. Your nervous system learned: love is not reliable. People leave. Stay alert. And that learning didn't go anywhere when you grew up. It came with you, into every relationship you've ever tried to hold.

EFT Tapping — Emotional Freedom Technique — works with that nervous system learning directly. You're not going to talk your way out of an abandonment wound with logic. But you can tap your way through it, one honest round at a time.

This is a full 3-round session. You can do it right now.

Before You Begin

Find somewhere you can be still for a few minutes. You can sit, lie down, or stay wherever you are.

The karate chop point is on the fleshy outer edge of either hand. During the setup statements, tap here continuously.

Then move through the 8 tapping points in this order:

  1. Eyebrow — inner corner, at the start of the brow
  2. Side of eye — the bony ridge at the outer corner
  3. Under eye — the bone just below your eye
  4. Under nose — between your nose and upper lip
  5. Chin — between your lower lip and chin
  6. Collarbone — just below and beside where the collarbones meet
  7. Under arm — about four inches below the armpit
  8. Top of head — the crown

Tap each point 5–7 times, enough to feel it, not hard. Say the phrases aloud if you can. Breathe throughout.

The Core Belief

"I am terrified they'll leave me. Love never lasts. I will always be abandoned."

Hold that for a moment. Notice where it lands in your body. We're not agreeing with it — we're acknowledging it, so we can move through it.

Round 1 — Honoring the Wound (Negative)

This round fully acknowledges the fear. Don't soften it yet. Just let it be seen.

Setup statements — tap karate chop point:

"Even though I'm terrified they'll leave me too — the way everyone always seems to leave — I'm willing to be honest about how much this fear has cost me."

"Even though my body goes into panic when someone gets quiet or distant, and part of me is always braced for abandonment, I acknowledge that a young part of me learned this fear for very good reasons."

"Even though I don't know how to fully trust that someone will stay, because the evidence from my childhood told me otherwise — I am here, I am willing, and I'm doing this work."

Tapping points:

Eyebrow: This terror of being left.

Side of eye: The way my whole nervous system goes on high alert when someone pulls away.

Under eye: I've been in this fear for so long I don't even remember what it feels like to feel safe in love.

Under nose: Part of me is always waiting. Always scanning. Always preparing for the goodbye.

Chin: Because that's what I learned. People leave. Love doesn't last. I am always the one who gets left behind.

Collarbone: My body learned this when I was small and had no other way to make sense of what was happening.

Under arm: And it has been on watch ever since, trying to protect me from that pain happening again.

Top of head: I acknowledge all of that. The fear is real. The wound is real. And it is old.

Round 2 — Softening (Neutral)

This round doesn't force you into optimism. It just opens a small door.

Setup statements — tap karate chop point:

"Even though part of me still believes that everyone leaves eventually, I'm willing to consider that this belief was formed by a child who was trying to survive — not by the whole truth of who I am."

"Even though my nervous system still responds to uncertainty like it's a death sentence, I acknowledge that I am an adult now, with more capacity than I had then."

"Even though this fear of abandonment still lives in my body, I choose to be gentle with the part of me that learned to be afraid."

Tapping points:

Eyebrow: What if not everyone leaves the same way those early people did?

Side of eye: What if my nervous system is running a very old program — one that made sense then, but doesn't fit what's true now?

Under eye: I was small when I learned that love wasn't safe. I had no other frame of reference.

Under nose: Of course I believed what my experience showed me. That's all any child can do.

Chin: But I am not that child anymore. I have more resources now. More capacity. More awareness.

Collarbone: I don't have to fully believe something new yet — but I can start to question the old story.

Under arm: The fear of abandonment is not a prophecy. It is a wound that is asking to be healed.

Top of head: I am allowed to soften. I am allowed to open. Just a little. Just here.

Round 3 — Moving Toward Truth (Positive)

This round speaks toward what is actually true, even if it doesn't fully land yet. Let it be a seed.

Setup statements — tap karate chop point:

"Even though there is still a part of me that waits to be left, I am choosing to believe that I am worthy of love that stays — love that doesn't require me to earn it or shrink to keep it."

"Even though this has been hard and old and deep, I am choosing to receive healing for this wound — for me, and for the child inside me who deserved consistent love."

"Even though I don't have it all figured out, I am choosing to trust that I am held — by God, by my own healing, and by love that is bigger than what was withheld from me."

Tapping points:

Eyebrow: I am worthy of love that is consistent, patient, and present.

Side of eye: The people who couldn't stay were not a verdict on my worth. They were limited people carrying their own wounds.

Under eye: I release the belief that abandonment is my destiny.

Under nose: I am allowed to expect love that shows up. Not perfectly — but reliably.

Chin: The little one inside me who learned to brace for loss — I am with them now. They are not alone.

Collarbone: I am becoming someone who can receive love without flinching, without waiting for it to end.

Under arm: I am worthy of being chosen. I am worthy of being stayed for. This is true.

Top of head: I am loved. I am held. I am not the exception. And the healing is already happening.

After You Tap

Take a slow breath. Let your body land.

You don't have to feel completely transformed after one session. Tapping is cumulative — it works through repetition, the same way healing always does. Notice if there's any shift, however small: a little loosening in your chest, a breath that came slightly easier, a small release somewhere you were holding tension.

Come back to this script whenever the fear surfaces. You can tap your way through the panic, through the spiral, through the moment of bracing — one honest round at a time.

The abandonment wound is one of the deepest wounds there is. But it is not permanent, and it is not the final word on who you are or what love you're allowed to receive.
